Hill finishes 4th at Tazewell

April 20, 2008 - Vic Hill had to wait until Sunday to run at Tazewell Speedway and the Thunder Thaw 50 Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series race. The race was rained out on Saturday night and was rescheduled for Sunday afternoon. Dry, slick conditions were the order of the day as off and on sunshine made passing a challenge on the 1/3-mile bullring.

Vic made the most of it by finishing 4th in the 50-lap main event. Hill spent most of the race trying to find a way around then third place runner Jimmy Owens. Hill could not find a passing point for his Landair Transport/Qualcomm/Pilot Travel Centers/Beamer's Floor Covering/Hightower Advertising/Miller Brothers Coal GRT Monte Carlo. Hill settled for 4th in the final rundown.

Vic will be back at Volunteer Speedway on Saturday, April 26 as part of the track's weekly racing program.

Hill's night turns to disappointment

May 3, 2008 - Things were set up for Vic Hill to capture a big win in front of the home folks. Hill captured the pole for the $4,000 to win Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series race at Volunteer Speedway.

But it was Scott Bloomquist that took the lead from the other outside front row spot. Hill gave chase until losing 2nd to Shanon Buckingham. Hill regained the spot when Buckingham spun because of a lapped car. Hill continued the purse Bloomquist until the right rear wheel came off his GRT on lap 28. That ended Hill's night.

Vic will be back in action this weekend at Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, TN for another AAPTS event.

Hill captures win at The Gap

May 10, 2008 - A late week schedule change paid off as Vic Hill ventured to his home track of Volunteer Speedway and picked up his first win of the season. Hill came back to "The Gap" searching for his first win of the season. It paid off as he took the pole through time trials, then led every lap of the super late model feature.

Vic will be doing some asphalt racing this weekend as he will be at Bristol Motor Speedway and the UARA race on Saturday night.

Controversial call denies Hill win at Tazewell

May 24, 2008 - A controversial call denied Vic Hill a win in the Tazewell Battle of the Bluegrass race on May 24. Hill set fast time with a time of 11.456 seconds around the 1/3-mile, high banked track. He would finish second in his heat to Victor Lee to earn the 4th starting spot.

The feature was a typical wild and crazy Tazewell race. A flat tire by early leader Lee would send him to the rear of the field. That would move Tyrel Todd to the lead with Vic now in second.

Hill would chase Todd for most of the 60-lap feature. With 15 laps to go, Hill would begin to pressure Todd for the lead. Lee had worked his way from the rear to third place and moved in on Todd and Hill. On lap 52, Hill and Todd made contact coming off turn 2 which sent Todd spinning. Todd came to a stop on the track. Under series rules, he had to go to the rear. That appeared to give Hill the lead with Lee in second. Under the caution, series officials decided to also send Hill to the rear. This decision did not sit well with Hill as he parked his car 2 laps later.

Vic's plans for this weekend are undecided.

Vic wins $3,000 at "The Gap"

May 31, 2008 - Vic Hill returned to his home track of Volunteer Speedway for the Rusty Wallace Pontiac 50, a $3,000 to win race.

Hill set fast time for the event with a time of 12.403 seconds. The race featured dash races and B-mains, so Hill was not guaranteed the pole. Hill finished 2nd to Rick Rogers in the dash to earn the 2nd starting spot for the 50-lap race.

From there, Hill took the lead from the outside front row and never looked back. He led all 50 laps to win the race.

“This is what we show up on race nights for, to hopefully run up front and win races,” said Hill after climbing from his car in victory lane with a smile on his face. “It’s good to see such an outstanding field of cars here tonight for this race, and I’m glad for track owner Joe Loven. He’s really put a lot of work into this place over the last few years, and I want to see him rewarded for his efforts. The track’s really been fast this year, and tonight was no exception. When it’s (surface) wet, sure, it’s going to roll up a little and you’d better grab a good hold on the steering wheel and hang on. But I like to race on a good, fast, tacky track.

“We were very good here a couple of weeks ago when we won, and tonight as soon as we hit the track for hotlaps, I knew we had a good shot at winning. This place is getting to where you can run up high around the corners again, and when you’re up there you’re really rolling around here quickly. I guess finishing second to Rick (Rogers) in the dash was a good thing, because it put us on the outside of the front row for the start. I knew if we could at least be side-by-side racing off into the first turn that we’d carry the momentum off the high-side of turn two and power into the lead, and that’s how it played out. I recently began running American Racers, and I want to thank Tommy Parish and Jeff Treece at American Race Tires for their assistance in getting me going on these tires. I also want to thank Stevie Collins, Joey Orr and Bud Orr for all they do working on the car, and I can’t forget my wife Christa for all her support, along with Marty Evans too."

Vic's next race is "The Dream" at Eldora Speedway.

Vic has fair showings at NGS & TST

June 14, 2008 - Vic Hill decided for a road trip, entering a couple of Lucas Oil Late Model Series races at North Georgia Speedway and Talladega Short Track. Vic made the show at both races and had fair showings in both races.

Vic made the field for the NGS event by winning the second of two B-main races. A total of 53 cars attempted to make the field for the $10,000 to win race.

In the feature, Vic did some hard racing from his 18th starting spot. He spent a good part of his time on the track battling Bart Hartman and Scott James. Vic suffered from overheating problems and dropped out of the race posting a 19th place finish.

Vic moved on to TST where 50 drivers were trying to make the show. Vic was one that made it, getting the last available transfer spot of the night. Vic held off Freddy Smith for the last transfer spot in the last B-main.

Despite starting 22nd, Vic made some progress through the race and posted a 17th place finish. The two finishes are not what Vic is accustomed to, but fair showing considering the competition at both races.

Vic will be back at Volunteer Speedway on June 21 for an unsanctioned $2,000 to win race.

Lucas races provide disappointments

July 7, 2008 - The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series returned to East Tennessee with a pair of races at Tazewell Speedway and Volunteer Speedway on July 4th weekend.

The Tazewell race slated for July 4 was rained out and moved to Sunday. Rain moved in as time trials was taking place.

Attention then turned to Volunteer Speedway where 44 cars signed in. Vic finished 3rd in his heat to take the 10th starting spot on the grid. From there, Vic made some progress toward the front, running as high as 6th place. But a spin involving Vic, Shanon Buckingham, and Mark Vineyard caused some unseen damage to the car. Vic faded in the closing laps and finished 8th.

Back to Tazewell where 28 cars returned for the rescheduled race. Vic finished 6th in his heat. With only three heat races being held, the top 6 from each heat transfered, placing Vic in the starting grid.

From there, things went downhill. Vic dropped from the race and finished 21st. Vic will be back at Volunteer Speedway this Saturday night as part of their weekly racing program.

Third place finish at Tazewell

July 27, 2008 - After finishing 5th in the O'Reilly Southern Nationals race at Volunteer Speedway, Vic moved to Tazewell Speedway for the final race of the series.

Vic turned in the 3rd fastest qualifying time out of 27 cars. On the start, Vic quickly settled in to 4th spot behind Chris Madden, Ronnie Lee Hollingsworth, and Tommy Kerr. Kerr would move past Hollingsworth for second. As Hollingsworth faded, Vic passed the pole sitter for 3rd. Vic reeled in Kerr and the two battled side-by-side for the second spot for the final dozen-plus laps. Vic almost had Kerr passed for the spot with 2 laps to go, but Kerr kept the spot by riding the high line around the track. Vic posted a 3rd place finish.

Earlier in the week, Vic posted an 11th place finish in the O'Reilly Southern Nationals race at Crossville Raceway. It was Vic's first trip to Crossville in 5 years.

Vic will be back at Volunteer Speedway this Saturday night.
